It’s not uncommon to feel exhausted and drained after the Holidays. When the New Year begins, many want to relax, unwind and de-stress—and what better way to do that than with cocktails. Thankfully, the annual San Antonio Cocktail Conference (SACC) always kicks off the year with five cocktail-infused days of fun. From educational seminars to cocktail parties, this festival ensures a great time for everybody.
Planning Your SACC Schedule
With more than fifty events, picking which ones to attend may feel impossible. However, Executive Director Cathy Siegel sheds some light on what events—among the many—you do not want to miss out on. This year’s Opening Night at the DoSeum is one of them. The new venue—a change from last year’s Majestic—offers a great playground for the cocktail event.

Siegel also includes Waldorf on the Prairie on her list—a cocktail party hosted at the St. Anthony Hotel. “There aren’t many places as beautiful as the St. Anthony Hotel for a party,” she said. And if the party is anything like the one from last year, this is an event that is not to be missed for those who enjoy the higher end spirits.
But the event that Siegel insists you cannot start the weekend off without is Daiquiri Hour & Toast to Sasha Petraske at Bohanan’s Restaurant & Bar. Siegel shared that, “Bohanan’s is where the whole thing started six years ago and the kick-off toast is a perfect place to be on Thursday afternoon.” This event pays homage to the late Petraske—who’s legacy is at cocktail bars across the city—and one of his favorite cocktails. It does not require a ticket.
What’s New in 2017
Along with the different venue for Opening Night, Alamo Beers will be the new venue for After Hours: A Draught Party. SAAC is also including new pop-ups for the Stroll on Houston Street and the new pop-up bar at Studio 109 on Travis Street.
The “High-Jinx” Signature Cocktail
And of course, this year brings about the SAAC’s 2017 signature cocktail: the High-Jinx. This Scotch based cocktail infuses hints of blood orange, pomegranate and almond mixed with vanilla and honey to produce a smooth bubbly flavor. You’ll be able to find it at many of the parties throughout the week.
The San Antonio Cocktail Conference takes place January 11-15th and a full schedule of their events can be viewed at their website. As always, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to charities for children: Children’s Shelter, Clarity Child Guidance Center and TEAMability. And if you still haven’t made up your mind to attend, be sure to check out the previous coverage on SA Flavor—it will help make this decision a no-brainer.
