What is it about Dos Equis that makes them so captivating? First they had an amazing party in San Antonio a couple of years ago (seriously—it was amazing and had quick sand) and then had the Most Interesting Man in the World as the grand marshal for last year’s Fiesta Flambeau Parade. But the brand continues to impress, now utilizing some pretty space age technology.
As a technology geek and marketer, I was fascinated by their latest campaign that uses the Oculus Rift. For those not in the know, the Oculus Rift is a device that is worn as a headset that creates an immersive experience for the viewer. I’ve wanted to get my hands on one since attending SXSW last year (there was a huge line for a Game of Thrones demo), so you can imagine how excited I was to demo the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man’s Masquerade party on the Oculus Rift the other day.
I met the Dos Equis rep at Taco Garage—where I had a fantastic carnitas plate with a side of guacamole—to check it out. I have to admit, ever since Nintendo’s Virtual Boy, I’ve been a little suspect of technology that I have to wear on the face. But this experience was different.

For one, you have the ability to look around you. I mean, you can look at the ceiling, the floor and side to side, giving you the feeling that you are truly in the room. The sound added to the experience; the high definition headphones blocked out all the noise from the “real world,” allowing you to be immersed in the conversation and sounds happening in the room.
The film is around two to three minutes, and while I won’t spoil the experience for you let’s just say that there are plenty of elegant guests, some fire and a cheetah. Not to mention the Most Interesting Man himself.
Admittedly, the technology has a little way to go—I would like to see the video in HD or even 4K—but the experience is a ton of fun and definitely worth checking out. Dos Equis will have their Oculus Rift Masquerade Ball experience at BushWood at 13800 Jones Maltsberger from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. on October 29th and at The Block food truck park at 14530 Roadrunner Way from 10:00 – midnight on October 30th.

Can’t make any of those locations? Check out their parallel experience with a complimentary interactive digital video that lets fans help The Most Interesting Man find his “little black book” featuring several choices that give them control over the narrative with a click of their mouse. Choosing the right path can get you a ticket to the REAL Masquerade Party in New Orleans in November.
There’s other ways to win a trip to the big party in NOLA (providing that your 21 or older), including:
- Uploading Halloween pictures onto Instagram with #XXMasquerade
- Texting or emailing a picture of your receipt to XX@DESWEEPS.com
- Uploading a picture of your best Halloween celebration to XXMasquerade.com
But take it from this techie fanboy—don’t miss an opportunity to get your hands on an Oculus Rift and get out to either of those bars this week!
