Are you ready for some football! I can’t believe that September is almost here and it is time for those Friday night lights. With the college football season kicking off last night, and my beloved Red Raiders playing tonight, everything seems to be right with the world. Especially with the three day weekend coming up. On to the Quick Bites!
The Hatch Chile fest has come and gone at Central Market (I missed out on blogging about it due to a remodeling disaster), but they still have a few of those hot peppers left. Check out this post (with a video!) on how to roast your own green chiles, and leave the windows open so that you can get that intoxicating aroma spread throughout your house. Need a recipe for your chiles? Check out my mom’s enchiladas and famous queso that is perfect for the big game (I’m going to work on updating the photos this year!).
I found out that Teka Molino has some amazing weekday lunch specials. I stopped by their location on Rittiman Road with a friend this past week and got a beef enchilada plate, tea and a pastry for just $6.75! The entree changes daily and this has to be one of the best lunch deals in town. The added bonus is that I ordered something that I don’t typically get (beef enchiladas) because I wanted the special. Only drawback? I forgot my good camera and had to use the iPhone…
If you read the blog often you know that I typically don’t stray from Mexican, hamburgers and comfort foods. However, earlier this week San Antonio Jane had a hankering for some Greek cuisine so we made our way over to Zorbas to satisfy it. In particular, I enjoyed their hummus—it was really creamy and not grainy at all. One drawback is that you get only one piece of pita bread and have to pay for another (I don’t know how they think you can sop up all the goodness with four triangles). Rest assured it is worth it. Be sure to ask for some of the spicy red sauce on the side.
If you are single in San Antonio and looking to meet some new people, you might want to check out Piranha Killer Sushi’s sake tasting event this Tuesday, September 3 starting at 5:00 p.m. For $25, guests will learn how to pair five types of sake with sushi. The event is very interactive and can be perfect for singles to break the ice with each other; can call (210) 822-1088 to reserve your spot.
