Local is just better. Not only because it’s a good feeling to support your community but because items locally made are more accessible, higher quality and more relatable! This is especially true for these five San Antonio makers and creators. Apparel, artwork, home accessories and more, SA’s own are putting out some great work. Here are some of our favorites in this San Antonio gift guide.
1. BarbacoApparel
Work buddies Nydia, Richard and Matt had been kicking around business ideas since ‘09 before landing on SA based apparel company, BarbacoApparel. Apparel by Texans and for Texans. The designs of BarbacoApparel’s t-shirts, prints and pins focus on hispanic culture and SA Folklore, making them extremely relatable for the SA consumer. And now, they’re even easier to find with seven unique designs available exclusively at H-E-B!
Favorite Item: This “On My Mind” T-shirt, which is basically just a portrait of me. And every San Antonian. Get yours here!
2. Very That
The “One Stop Chicana Shop,” Very That is run by South Sider Cristina Hernandez and this store has a wide range of products available to the chicana shopper. Everything from coffee mugs to stickers and bracelets to onsies all of which, as Very That says, “hecho a mano con tanto amor.”
Favorite Item: “En Mi Casa” Sticker Multi-Pack -$5.95 Vicks and Fideo? It doesn’t get more #PuroSA than that!
3. Snake Hawk Press
Led by artist Cruz Ortiz, Snake Hawk Press is a “creative factory” and design firm. They’ve worked with clients like ACL, The Alamo Colleges and The Pearl Historic District. They’ve got great prints, t-shirts and other goodies available and you’ll find them selling these goodies at events all over town.

5. Bird & Pear
Practical, durable and adorable are all words used to describe the handmade gifts and accessories found at SA’s own Bird & Pear, located in the heart of Downtown at La Villita. Retail vet Liz started the company by scratching her own itch, unable to find cheerful home decor with that classic South Texas flair. The secret? Up-cycled Mexican dresses and serapes! Pillows, purses, zip bags, koozies and more all from this durable and beautiful fabric.
