One of the more fun things about being a blogger is that occasionally different food shows will reach out to me when they come to film in San Antonio. Case in point with My Family Recipe Rocks, a cooking show where former ‘N Sync singer Joey Fatone travels the country to feature family dishes from both professional chefs and those who have a joy of cooking. While at dinner with some friends this past winter, I asked if any of them would be interested in sharing their family recipes and Courtney White volunteered.
You can catch Courtney making a very San Antonio meal tonight, sharing some of the recipes that are a favorite of both her and her family. The show airs on the following channels: 4.2 Over-the-Air, 280 on Grande Communications, 39 on Hill Country Telecommunications and either 80 or 861 on Time Warner Cable. If you have Direct TV like me, you can just catch Courtney’s episode online at a later time. I asked Courtney to share a little bit about the experience of being on TV and with a former boy band idol, and this is what she had to say!
As I sat across from Garrett at dinner with Jessica and Marla, and he asked me if I like to be on TV, I had no idea what to expect. I got the call giving me the thumbs up a little over a week later from Jeff the executive producer for My Family Recipe Rocks and the planning began! I prepared a Tex-Mex menu of Sangria Swirl Margaritas, Pico de Gallo, Guacamole, HEB Texas shaped tortilla chips, Creamy Chicken Enchiladas, Pinto Beans, Texas sheet cake and Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream. I’m certainly not a professional chef, but I do love some good food and preparing it for friends and family makes me really happy.

It was an intense day of filming, but the crew (Jeff, Jon, Dave, Zach, and Joey Fatone) were so much fun! Constantly busting out in song with themes from Lego Movie and Frozen, there wasn’t a dull moment or lack of laughter.
The blender didn’t stop after making the first round of slushy margaritas, and everyone enjoyed the delicious San Antonio style meal. I was a little nervous at first but hanging out with Joey Fatone was like I was hanging out with my best friend all day. I loved that I was able to include my mom in the experience and honor some of my friends and family that passed the ‘family recipes’ on to me. I hope everyone enjoys San Antonio getting some positive publicity and likes the show as much as I loved the whole experience! Thanks to Garrett and SA Flavor for thinking of me and sending in my name. Check out My Family Recipe Rocks this Sunday, April 27, on The Live Well Network or on livewellnetwork.com!
