Doing this Quick Bites this week was a little tough, because I’ve been out in Portland at a conference. The cool weather has been a welcome addition, but I don’t know if I would make that trade for the lack of Tex-Mex! The food has been great, and I will be writing a post later with pictures from the food I’ve found in PDX. One to the Quick Bites!
- The 3rd Annual Food Truck Throwdown is happening at the Boardwalk on Bulverde starting Friday, July 26th through Sunday, July 28th! In addition to chowing down on good food, Animal Care Services (ACS) will be showcasing animals available for adoption throughout the weekend.Food trucks featured during the Food Truck Throwdown & Pet Adoption include all of those that are staples at the venue such as Slice Brick Oven Pizza, Red King, Society Bakery, Dirty Dawgs, Crazy Carl’s, Gracie’s Kitchen, Totally Shredded, Winner Winner Chicken Dinner, KC’s Cones and Hippie Mommas. Additional guest trucks featured are Spice Sea Gourmet, Twisted Brisket and Angus Smoke Shop. Adults can enjoy ice cold Miller Lite beverages from Glazer’s Distributors.
- Before leaving for Portland, you know I had to fill up on some Tex-Mex. To satisfy my craving, I stopped at Thousand Oaks Cafe for some chilaquiles and some of the city’s best tortillas for lunch.
While waiting on my Southwest flight, I ended up checking out Chef Johnny’s airport version of La Gloria (in the place where the Las Palapas used to be). One item I liked in particular were the tacos dorados filled with chicken and topped with a red sauce.
I filled up on Mexican food before leaving because I didn’t think I would find it in Portland. Turns out I was wrong. For reasons unknown the folks at the conference thought it would be a good idea to feed us enchiladas. DOH! Stick with what you know Portland – funky food! There will be a post on this later.
