I’m about to hit the road to far West Texas to celebrate knowing San Antonio Jane now for the past two years! But, before I go, I wanted to have an abbreviated Quick Bites section since I have been a bad blogger and not updated in a while. On to the quick bites!
- If you are looking for a throwback malt, look no further than Cheesy Janes. Their chocolate malt (which is served with the tin) is unbelievable and got the seal of approval from my mom who worked in a pharmacy back in the day. The Pecos burger is nice, served with their spicy splinters (fried jalapeƱos) and BBQ sauce, though the cheddar jalapeƱo bun on the Southwest burger that my dad got looked outstanding.
- Casa Sol on San Pedro just North of 410 is one of San Antonio Jane’s go to places for Tex-Mex. Their margaritas are excellent, and her favorite thing on the menu is the chimichangas. I would recommend going for the shredded chicken option and word to the wise: unless you are so hungry that you can eat a horse, I would just get one.
- The Station Cafe in South Town has expanded since the last time I ate there, and I met Wes, the local blogger behind Wes’ Cravin’s. I ordered one of his favorites, the habanero roast beef sandwich, and boy, it packed some heat. That habanero sauce is not playing around, so if you don’t like spicy food, I would stay away from that sandwich and try something tamer. I was really impressed with the price and the quality of the food.
Sorry for being a little MIA, but I got some exciting things planned in the near future. As a teaser, get ready for several articles to help wind down the Oktoberfest season, one from a good friend who was in Bavaria for the celebration, a guest post from a local beer fan along with a post about an up-and-coming Hill Country Brewery. Prost!
