I love ice cream. I know others who love it as much as I do, but I hear them say, “ice cream is my weakness.” Whatever – it is only a weakness if you can’t finish the pint in one sitting.
Since moving to Mahncke Park in the spring, Central Market has been my neighborhood grocery store. A lot of my friends get so excited about their diverse beer selection with brews from all over the world. However, I was floored when I rounded the corner and saw the ice cream section. It is the land of frozen milk and sugar, the El Dorado of the frozen treat.
My incredibly large sweet tooth, coupled with the fact that it is very hot outside (as well as inside my window-only-AC-unit house) led me to start a series of posts on ice cream. This series will ensure that (1) I try new types of ice cream instead of my old standards and (2) that I get to eat ice cream every week. If you have a flavor that is a “must try” be sure to leave it in the comments along with why I should try it. You never know, it could be next on the list.
To start out this series, I decided to go with a newer flavor from a familiar brand – Blue Bell’s Happy Tracks. It is a vanilla ice cream generously swirled with fudge and has little chocolate covered peanut butter candies (a la Reese’s) mixed in. The ice cream could stand alone just with the fudge and you get a good “marbling” throughout the container.
What takes it to the top is the little peanut butter candies. Admittedly, the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup blizzard is my favorite, so I knew I would like this ice cream. However, it is a little different because the candies aren’t broken, but wrapped up in chocolate. So when you have a bite without the candy there is no peanut butter flavor, but when you get one, it is like a peanut butter punch of goodness.
