Have you ever been to Wurstfest in New Braunfels? It is a German festival; a salute to sausage! They have beer, food, funky hats and German music…and it is awesome! I have a good friend, Micah, who introduced our group to the event because her family had been going since she was a kid. We go every year. The following are pictures from my Wurstfest adventure last weekend. Sprechen sie fun, beer and sausage? Wurstfest is open until November 10, so stop by!
I’m not exactly sure why people wear crazy hats to Wurstfest, but it is entertaining! My friends and I have a few hats that we use specifically for the event. This year, I wore a fun striped hat, my friend Melissa wore a squid hat, and my friend Chrissy wore bunny ears.
The first thing we do when we walk into the grounds is get a pitcher of beer…Shiner!
I’m always excited to see the new design of the cups every year.
And after the beer ALWAYS comes a pork chop. New Braunfels Little League sales pork chops on a stick for $5. This may be the best $5 you ever spend. If there is a line, you wait. They are thick, juicy and the marinade is out of control.
Then it’s time for the German music and dancing! We usually hit one of the smaller tents first.
We eat a lot of food during Wurstfest. There is no time for dieting at this event. This year, we tried the bratwurst…
the fried pickles…
and the fried sauerkraut balls.
Then it is time for more beer, usually served by a nice person in German attire. Check out all the buttons!
I like sticking with the plastic cups (easier to carry), but some people opt to purchase a German Beer Stein.
Then it’s time for more music and dancing in the main hall. It may be crowded and you have to get there early to grab a seat, but it is always a blast.
I ended the night with a waffle for dessert…as if I wasn’t already full.
Cheers to another year of Wurstfest!
And for you folks looking to really get in the spirit of things, here’s a video to teach you how to say some common phrases you could use at Wurstfest in German!
