I love it when the medal creator throws a huge pachanga to celebrate their medal release. And one of the biggest parties around is at the San Antonio Museum of Art! You can snag their medal at their second Friday pARTy tonight, April 14th, in the courtyard of the museum. Entry is free for members and those who purchased a museum ticket.
The San Antonio Museum of Art Fiesta Medal was inspired by the exhibition of Julian Onderdonk and the Texas Landscape, a collection of works by the San Antonio native and American Impressionist best known for his signature bluebonnets. You’ll be able to purchase the medal for $10 at the event (and if you missed the pARTy, get the medal later in the museum shop) and hear some tunes by Blackbird Sing (who will also have their medal on sale!).
San Antonio Museum of Art 2016 Fiesta Medal
I was sad to miss the San Antonio Museum of Art’s big pre-Fiesta party this year. It’s one of the best ways to kick off Fiesta—and you get a free medal for attending. But if you weren’t able to attend, you can still score one of their medals at their museum store for $10. Stop by at 200 W. Jones Ave to get yours today.

The San Antonio Museum of Art unveiled their 2015 Fiesta medal at their Art Party, and they are available for purchase at the museum store.
San Antonio Museum of Art 2014 Fiesta Medal
Last night I dropped in a for a quick visit to the Viva Party at the San Antonio Museum of Art. They gave away free medals to members at the party, but you can now pick one up at the museum for $5.
This was the party for people who may get claustrophobic at events like NIOSA and Taste of New Orleans. It was a relaxed atmosphere with an overall chill vibe. The Esquire Tavern was on hand to make Fiesta themed cocktails. I ordered The Battle of Flowers, a refreshing drink made with gin, St. Germain, mint, lemon and sparkling wine; it went down easy on the warm South Texas evening.
Local band Blackbird Sing was on the stage for the evenings entertainment. While most of the guys looked like they would probably fit into a metal or heavy rock band, they belted out songs in a harmonious alt country feel. I was more than impressed, and if you haven’t heard them I would highly recommend checking them out!
