It seems that more and more television shows are stopping by the Alamo City ever since Top Chef came to town. One of the latest shows to film was the Cooking Channel’s Eat Street. They are filming some of SA’s premier food trucks, starting yesterday with Chef Jason Dady’s Duk Truck. I was happy that the show asked me to go on camera to talk about a couple of the trucks. I think I might make the cut after I said that the Duk Truck’s Duk Tacos were “slap yo momma good” and took a huge bite out of the taco. Time will tell… On to the Quick Bites!
- The annual Food Truck Throwdown is happening at the Boardwalk on Bulverde this weekend. Stating at noon and ending at midnight this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, folks can stop on by the park and sample food from a wide variety of trucks with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Susan Koman Foundation. Like last year, the people’s choice award will be tallied by votes for your favorite truck. I can only hope that they only let actual people who go to the Boardwalk vote instead of making it a Facebook “Like” game. Time will tell. Special Bonus: Eat Street will be out filming the Rickshaw Stop on Sunday at 1:00PM where I might have a second opportunity to get on TV. Come by and say “Hi!”
- If you find yourself at Tycoon Flats in the near future, I would highly suggest ordering the Mexican Burger. Made with queso and guacamole, this is a ginormous burger with a lot of flavor. For a small upgrade, get the mix of sweet potato and normal french fries and do yourself a favor and ask for the “Tiger Ranch” to dip them in.
- Looking for the perfect gift to give that Disney Fanatic? Look no further than air fresheners that smell like the iconic Disney park food. You can choose from such flavors as turkey leg, the Mickey ice cream bar, candy apple and Mickey waffle. Seriously, this is not a joke.
- If you’re looking for an interesting summer take on an Italian classic, I would suggest checking out the Adventures of a 30 Something blog for a fruity take on bruschetta. She came up with an interesting idea to use strawberries, basil, lemon juice and goat cheese on the toast and it looks fantastic.
